A Little Background Story
I was born Nigerian and spent most of my childhood surrounded by love from family and friends. Until one day…
At six years old, I was involved in a car accident that resulted in losing part of my right arm and nearly losing my life. My family and I moved to the United Kingdom. Moving to the U.K. was exciting in the beginning. I had a great childhood filled with love from my family.
At age 10, I was diagnosed with hearing loss, a devasting shock to my family and me. Due to both disabilities, I was a quiet and shy girl at school. I was bullied and lonely, which resulted in my losing confidence and self-belief. This went on from primary to secondary school, and I couldn’t focus on my education.
At 16, I decided to leave school and began my journey in college to study Administration because I had a dream of working in an office. Unfortunately, after one year of struggling, I failed the course. But I never gave up. I spent over a decade going back and forth to college and studying alternative courses, such as Business, Fashion and Textiles, Web design, Digital Media, and Baking; I even did a course on Radio.
AT age 21, I was a victim of rape in an abusive relationship. That same year, I got my first job at a grocery store which was a fascinating time. I used the job to overcome my ordeal and build my confidence.
AT 23, I found out I was pregnant, and three months later, I was diagnosed with HIV. My world was crushed. Everything that I loved and worked hard for was destroyed.
At 24, I gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby girl – Sasha – Ann. Then my life changed forever.
From A Struggling Single Mother To A Successful, Independent Young Woman
Where most single parents struggle to feed themselves and take care of their kids, I saw it as an opportunity to begin the process of personal growth and life reinvention. When my daughter was three years old, I reflected on myself, where I have been, where I am now, and where I want to be in the next ten years. I dug out my old scrapbook from childhood and found a diary I kept as a teenager in which I shared all my thoughts about what was happening in life at that moment.
I read everything, and I realised how strong I am. It was like a moment: ‘ If I did go through all that I wrote about, then Sonia, you are a strong woman.’ That was when I decided that I deserved happiness, my daughter deserved a chance to have a happy life, and I was the only one who would make it happen.
I decided to return to college in 2017 to study Administration at an introduction level – and I never looked back…
In 2018, I started this blog – Life With Sonia.
Within a year, everything changed, and I began to gain more confidence in myself and my parenting skills. My daughter was a very bright and healthy little girl. The blog was slowly progressing as I didn’t know much about blogging. I just knew that I have always considered writing one of my most vital strengths because it has been a way to express myself better, and I have background knowledge in web design. I wanted to support other single mothers who may be going through the same difficulties as me by sharing my story.
Fast Foward To Where I am Now
Life has been busy. I am in my last year of college and in love with the only handsome man I have ever seen. My daughter is doing great. She’s happy and loves having fun with her friends. She’s into sports and crafts. She is also working on becoming an author and running her fashion business. I am very proud of her.
I started a business with the Juice Plus Company and currently working on starting a Virtual Assistant Business. The blog is doing so well. I have had successful partnerships with several female entrepreneurs who have shared their stories with me on the blog. You can check them out here >> Interviews <<.
We have Successful contributions from Experts and CEOs sharing their knowledge and expertise on various subjects in Properties Investments, Paralegals, Health and Fitness, Business, Skin-care, Empowerment etc. You can check them out here >> Guests Posts <<
Change Your Life
Do you ever feel like you’re stuck in a rut? Like you’re not living the life you want to be living? Maybe you’re in a job you don’t enjoy or struggling with your health or relationships. Whatever it is, know that you’re not alone. Many people feel this way at some point in their lives. The good news is that it’s possible to improve your life. Here are some tips to get started:
Identify What You Want To Change
The first step to changing your life is to figure out what you want to change. Take some time to reflect on your life and think about what’s not working for you. Maybe you’re unhappy with your job or not caring for your health as you should be. Write down a list of things you want to change and prioritise them.
Set Realistic Goals
Once you know what you want to change, set realistic goals. Ensure your goals are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. For example, to improve your health, you could set a goal to exercise 30 minutes a day, five days a week. Or, if you want to improve your career, you could set a goal to network with five new people in your industry each month.
The next step is to take action towards your goals. Start small and build momentum over time. For example, if your goal is to exercise 30 minutes a day, start by going for a 10-minute walk each day and gradually increase the time and intensity. Or, if your goal is to network with five new people in your industry each month, start by reaching out to one new person each week.
Changing your life can be hard work, so staying motivated is essential. Celebrate your successes, no matter how small they may seem. For example, if you’ve been exercising for a week, treat yourself to a massage or a favourite healthy snack. Surround yourself with supportive people who encourage and inspire you. And remember, setbacks are a natural part of any change process, so don’t beat yourself up if things don’t go as planned.
Finally, keep going. Changing your life is a journey, not a destination. It takes time, effort, and dedication. But remember, every step you take towards your goals is in the right direction. Don’t give up, even when things get tough. Remember why you started and keep pushing forward.
Changing your life is possible. It starts with identifying what you want to change, setting realistic goals, taking action, staying motivated, and keeping going. Remember, you have the power to create the life you want to live. So take that first step today and start your journey towards a better life.
Women Empowerment: Why It Matters and How to Achieve It
Women have come a long way since the early days of fighting for their rights, but there is still a long way to go. Women empowerment is a movement that focuses on empowering women by promoting gender equality and equal rights and providing opportunities for personal and professional growth. It is essential to recognise the importance of women’s empowerment and work towards achieving it.
Why Women’s Empowerment Matters
Gender equality is a fundamental human right. Empowering women benefits not only women themselves but also their families, communities, and society. Women’s empowerment leads to more economic growth, better health outcomes, and increased social and political participation.
Women face numerous challenges that hinder their progress and limit their potential. The gender pay gap, limited access to education, and lack of representation in leadership positions are some of the issues that women face. These challenges prevent women from achieving their full potential, which is why women’s empowerment is critical.
How to Achieve Women’s Empowerment
There are several ways to achieve women’s empowerment, and here are a few:
- Education: Education is the key to women’s empowerment. Education gives women the skills and knowledge they need to succeed personally and professionally.
- Equal pay: Women deserve to be paid the same as men for doing the same job. Closing the gender pay gap is essential for women’s empowerment.
- Leadership roles: Women should be given equal opportunities to hold leadership positions in every sector of society. More women in leadership positions will improve policies and decisions that benefit everyone.
- Support networks: Women need supportive networks to help them succeed. Mentors, sponsors, and allies are essential for women’s empowerment.
- Challenging gender stereotypes: Women are often stereotyped as being weak and emotional. Challenging these stereotypes and promoting positive representations of women in media and society can help empower women.
Women’s empowerment is crucial for creating a more equal and just society. By promoting gender equality, providing opportunities for personal and professional growth, and challenging gender stereotypes, we can work towards achieving women’s empowerment. Let us all work together to empower women and create a better future for everyone.
Building Stronger Communities and Empowering Future Generations
As women, we face unique challenges and obstacles in our personal and professional lives. While it can be tempting to view other women as competition, supporting and uplifting one another is essential to achieving gender equality and empowering future generations of women. In this blog post, we’ll explore the importance of women supporting women and offer tips for how we can all do our part to build stronger communities and empower one another.
Breaking Down Barriers
When women support women, we can break down the societal barriers historically holding us back. This can include fighting for equal pay and access to education, advocating for better maternity leave policies, and challenging gender stereotypes. By standing together and demanding change, we can create a world where women have the same opportunities as men.
Building Stronger Communities
Supporting other women can also help us build stronger communities. When we work together, we can create networks of support that can help us overcome challenges and achieve our goals. These networks can provide everything from mentorship and career advice to emotional support and friendship.
Empowering Future Generations
When we support and uplift other women, we also set an example for future generations. By showing young girls that women can achieve anything they set their minds to, we can help inspire them to pursue their dreams and become the leaders of tomorrow. We can also help them understand that competition and jealousy have no place in a supportive community.
Celebrating Our Differences
Finally, when we support other women, we can celebrate our differences and embrace diversity. Whether it’s race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or cultural background, we all have unique experiences and perspectives to share. We can build stronger and more inclusive communities by learning from one another and celebrating our differences.
So, how can we support other women in our daily lives? Here are a few ideas:
- Offer words of encouragement to a friend who is going through a difficult time.
- Share job opportunities or career advice with women in your network.
- Attend events and workshops that are focused on women’s issues.
- Mentor a young woman who is just starting in her career.
- Speak out against sexism and discrimination when you see it happening.
In conclusion, women supporting women is essential to achieving gender equality and building stronger communities. By breaking down barriers, empowering future generations, celebrating our differences, and offering support and encouragement to one another, we can create a world where women can thrive and succeed. Let’s all do our part to support and uplift the women in our lives.
